Learn more about Parks Computers and our story.
I developed a passion for technology early in life. I was always driven to understand how computers worked, often taking apart my father's systems and rebuilding them to learn from the inside out. I challenged myself with hands‑on projects such as installing Windows 98 across multiple machines, networking them together, and configuring a proxy server on Windows NT 4.0 to share a dial‑up connection among several computers. Those experiences cemented my interest in IT and problem‑solving.
Although I come from a long line of welders as a third‑generation member of the trade, my path naturally gravitated toward technology. I spent countless hours studying computers, Windows systems, and networking. By high school, teachers regularly relied on me for technical support, and after graduation I began repairing computers professionally. I worked days at my parents' welding shop and spent nights and weekends fixing computers for customers until I eventually outgrew my garage and moved into my first retail location.
In 2003, my wife and I relocated our family from Florida to Asheville, NC, where I committed fully to growing Parks Computers. Within a year, I moved the business from Tunnel Road to the Westgate Shopping Center, and in 2009 expanded again into our current location.
That same year, I launched a second business: The UPS Store 6142. My mother came out of retirement to help build and manage the store, and her involvement was instrumental to its success. Today, with a team of eight employees, I operate both businesses and serve thousands of clients each year.
Parks Computers is approaching its 26‑year anniversary, and The UPS Store 6142 is nearing 16 years. From a garage workspace to two established businesses, the journey has been defined by dedication, growth, and a commitment to serving the community.
